Custom built furniture: Bookshelf Sandton
I build bespoke furniture to your design or mine in a range of materials from Melamine to solid wood. My latest project was a kiaat room divider / bookshelf to fit a hatch where a window frame had been removed from when the verandah was closed in. This was built for Rautie in Villieria. Kiaat was chosen because it is a relatively budget friendly timber and the colour variation in grain makes it a beautiful and interesting wood.
Kiaat is classified as a hardwood and is always a pleasure to work with, It finishes well and makes for lovely furniture. In the past we have built tables, chairs, kitchen units and lounge furniture with kiaat, We have used finishes like varnish, oil and waxes on Kiaat furniture and they all looked great.
The spec was very simply a bookshelf to fit in that hole, 3 shelves should do it. I decided that we needed to make it look good and did a very rough sketch for Rautie. In this particular design, it was unneccessary to fix anything to the wall as I built a frame and then fixed it in place with some trim. Finish was Nova 17 Matt. Time 2 days, Budget less than R 10 000.00.
